Leave Unattempted blank to count the rest of the section as unattempted (24 VARC, 22 DILR and 22 QA questions, as in CAT 2024 and 2025). Your numbers stay in this browser and are only kept if you choose Save as a mock.
How CAT marks are calculated
The official CAT 2026 FAQ gives the marking scheme. Every question carries the same marks:
| Answer | MCQ | TITA (type in the answer) |
|---|---|---|
| Right | +3 | +3 |
| Wrong | −1 | 0 |
| Unattempted | 0 | 0 |
So a section's raw score is 3 × right − wrong MCQs. The number of TITA questions in each section varies, and the IIMs don't disclose it in advance. For the full structure, see the CAT exam pattern.
Reading the breakdown
Every mark you didn't get falls into one of three groups. It's the same split Ocegik's Mock Log uses for its score-leak view:
- Never attempted: 3 marks for each question you left. You recover these by attempting more, if your accuracy holds.
- Wrong attempts: 3 marks for each question you attempted but got wrong. This is an accuracy issue.
- Lost to negatives: the 1 mark deducted for each wrong MCQ. This is a question-selection issue: those attempts cost you marks.
Raw marks for one mock don't tell you much. The pattern across several mocks does. Our guide on how to analyse a CAT mock test shows how to turn the breakdown into a plan for the next one.
What about percentile?
This calculator doesn't estimate percentile. Your percentile depends on how every other test-taker scored, and the IIMs normalise marks across the three slots before turning them into percentiles. If you want a rough idea from past years, the CAT marks vs percentile guide shows the marks that past percentiles took, using reported data from CAT 2023 to 2025.
Frequently asked questions
Is there negative marking for TITA questions in CAT?
No. Per the official CAT FAQ, a wrong answer to a non-MCQ (TITA) question scores 0. Only a wrong MCQ costs 1 mark.
Does this calculator predict my CAT percentile?
No. It calculates raw marks only. Percentile depends on how everyone else scored and on normalisation across slots, which a raw score cannot tell you. For past marks-to-percentile trends, see the CAT marks vs percentile guide.
Why might my official CAT score differ from this raw score?
CAT is held in three slots, and the IIMs normalise (scale) raw marks so slots can be compared. Your scorecard shows scaled scores and percentiles, so it can differ from the raw marks you calculate from your response sheet.
Is anything I enter saved?
No. The numbers stay in your browser. They are only kept if you choose Save as a mock, which carries them into your Ocegik Mock Log.
