The table is alphabetical, not a ranking. IIM Bangalore is in Bengaluru and IIM Calcutta is in Kolkata; their institute names retain the older city names.

Why some lists still show 20 or 21 IIMs

Older lists can predate changes to the IIM network. The Ministry of Education’s 2018–19 annual report recorded 20 IIMs. IIM Mumbai’s 2023–24 annual report records its transition from NITIE to IIM Mumbai in 2023. IIM Guwahati’s website identifies it as the country’s 22nd IIM, established in 2026.

For the newest addition, use IIM Guwahati’s institute page. Its official homepage also records the inauguration of its first MBA batch in July 2026. A table that excludes Guwahati is therefore incomplete for this publication date.

An IIM name is not a programme name

An institute may offer more than one management qualification. A two-year MBA, a one-year residential programme and a programme designed for working professionals can have different entrance tests, experience requirements and teaching schedules.

For example, IIM Bangalore’s PGP admissions page describes a two-year full-time residential programme leading to an MBA. IIM Ahmedabad’s MBA-PGPX page describes a separate one-year MBA. Reading the admission conditions for one does not establish eligibility for the other.

PGP means Post Graduate Programme. It can remain part of a programme’s name even when the qualification awarded is an MBA. Check the award stated in the current brochure rather than inferring it from the abbreviation.

Turn the directory into an application list

Record the exact programme and entry year beside each institute you are considering. Then fill in five fields from its official pages:

1. Eligibility: degree requirements, minimum marks and any experience requirement.
2. Application route: entrance test, programme selection and any separate form or registration.
3. Selection policy: sectional thresholds, academic scoring, interview stages and final selection criteria.
4. Cost: the batch-specific fee schedule, included charges and payment dates.
5. Outcomes: the placement report for that programme and graduating batch.

Keep the source URL and the date you checked it in your notes. If a programme’s policy is not available for your entry year, leave the field marked “not yet published” instead of copying an older policy into it.
